The real highlight of my year as a fairly lonely only child was a visit to a certain family friend at Christmas. This was back in the 50’s / 60’s and the woman of the house was my Mothers best friend. There was no TV and indeed no need for one. The children had would you believe a Pool Table. Only a cheap one admittedly and it could only be used by placing it and somehow securing it onto the Dining Table. Obviously teatime always seemed to drag because all I could think of was helping the parents clear away and then out with the Pool Table. The two hours or more that followed was to all intents and purposes the happiest of my year.

We only had two Cues so playing doubles was slightly annoying having to continually hand the Cues over between us but this was just a minor irritation. As I remember the playing surface was wooden and quite honestly had warped a bit over the years but it never curbed my enthusiasm for the game of Pool. We used the chalk on a regular basis although I am convinced that at the time I never really understood what the Chalk was for!

The Balls had also seen better days but who cared. The triangle was also minus one of its sides but again we managed. Halcyon days indeed.

Anyway we all grew up and it was many years later before I eventually found myself with a Cue in my hand again and playing a game with one of my three Sons at a Holiday Camp using a Coin-Operated Pool Table. This was ideal especially if the weather turned inclement. Luckily there were a number of other Pool Tables available also Snooker Tables but these were full sized and a little outside of our expertise. I thought then what a money earner this was for the owners of the Arcade. The tables were of aluminium frame and had stainless steel included to provide a longer lasting piece of equipment especially compared with those wooden ones of my youth.

The answer came one day when one of us for some reason was looking back at snaps of the boys growing up and mention was made of the Holiday Camp and the Pool Table.
That was it. We could have a Pool Table in the Garden Shed. I looked on the Internet with some help from the children of course and found a Search Engine in which I entered the words ‘Pool Tables’. Lo and behold within seconds I was staring at all sorts and descriptions of more Pool Tables than I ever imagined. They all seemed to have delivery included in the price and came with Cues, Balls, Triangle (three sides I presumed!) and Chalk which by now I had found out the need for. Amongst the many different items was an outside Pool Table. Okay it would be in the shed but the shed might get damp inside it so investment in an outdoor table seemed a good idea.

These tables are made for use in all types of weather so for inside a shed seemed a brilliant idea. I ordered and one was delivered within a very short time.

My only problem now is trying to persuade the boys and their mates to let me play.

We have three reception rooms so with one being used as a living room and one as a dining room it seemed obvious to turn the other into the games room.

I went onto the internet and typed in pool tables uk into a search engine and spent the next hour searching through a large selection of sites that sell them. The ones that particularly interested me were those with cheap delivery. I actually found something that matched what we needed perfectly. It was a table that could be used as a pool table but could also be changed so you can also play table tennis on it or use it as a desktop table. It was a BCE / Riley - Pool, Table Tennis and Desktop Table.

The multi play games table was in rosewood which game it a really classy finish and would look great in the games room. We had never though about getting something like a table tennis table but as the table could be easily converted it seemed the obvious choice. Each day once we had finished playing it could be covered up which both protected the table but also hid it away so no-one would ever know what it was.

It came with bolt on 3” hollow square legs, a set of pool balls, 2 cures, a brush to clean the table, chalk, a triangle, 2x bats for table tennis, the net for table tennis and a set of balls. The total weight was only 53kg’s and it had a dimension of 72” by 36” by 31″.

Once the decision was made we placed the order and within a few days the delivery was made and by that evening we had a multi purpose table at the centre of our games room. Who needs a pool hall when you can have a pool table at home? The kids loved it not to mention all of their friends. We regularly have a group of their friends round as they play tournaments with each other. We even play family tournaments at the weekends.

At only a couple of hundred pounds it must be said that this table is one of the best buys I’ve ever made. With a pool table that can convert into a table tennis table you get twice the fun and entertainment for the same price. Anything that keeps the kids quiet is fine by me. I would strongly recommend this table to anyone. All you have to do is go to a search engine and type in pool tables and look through the websites that sell them. You’d be surprised by what you can find. If you don’t have the room then you can always get a folding leg table that can even be placed on a dining room table. They all have adjusting legs so you can make sure they are flat. Or if you are rich and have plenty of room you can get a slate bed table like you would see in a pool hall or a pub. They are slightly more expensive but well worth it. Just see for yourself.

After buying my pub a couple of years ago I had to get rid of the pool table which was about 30 years old. Since then I have often wondered if putting a new one in would be worth the cost and effort. I went onto the internet and looked for pool table companies that could supply a brand new slate bed pool table. I put slate bed pool tables into a search engine and got up a load of companies that supply them. There were loads of them right from small ones for children and folding leg tables for families with limited room right through to slate pool tables which was exactly what I wanted. The price was quite good when you consider that it was a pound a game. I tried to work out how long it would take to get my money back and it was actually only a couple of months.

I decided to buy a Supreme 8ft Slate Bed Pool Table. These tables are considered to be among them highest quality you can get. Supreme tables are used in championship events and tournaments around the world and are endorsed by the world 8 ball federation and the I.P.A. This pool table was even built in Lancashire which was just down the road.

The pool table is very popular as it has a nice modern look which is just perfect for my pub and should encourage lots of people to use it. I only had to decide now what colours and accessories to have with it. I decided on a blue felt cover. I also got as part of the price 2 cues, balls, chalk, a rest and a triangle. I got a couple of extra cues just in case any got damaged. The table had adjustable feet to allow for a flat playing surface which was very handy as my pub is old and I’m not sure the floor is 100% flat. With a nice Oak finish it would look wonderful.

I put in the order and agreed on professional fitting along with a coin-operated system so people can pay for the use of the table. After just a week it arrived and was sited at the back of my pub. With a load of adverts in and around the pub it soon became a new hit with the locals and was raking me in a load of money. Looking back it was one of the best moves I have ever made and after just 3 months I have made my money back and have now got an increased monthly income. What a move.

Having been trying to buy a place for years my mates and I decided to buy a place together. Four of us in total purchased a wonderful four bedroom detached house taking on a share of the house each. With two reception we obviously set one up as the living room with a television and sofas etc. The other we decided to set up as a games room. We decided on another large screen television to show sport on of course. Plus a dart board table football and most importantly a slate pool table.

Each of us was put in charge of a different aspect. I was in charge of finding and buying the pool table. I went straight online and put pool tables into a search engine and came up with a lovely long list of websites. Not all of them sold them but a good few did and once I found a good one I looked at what tables were on offer. Then looking through some more I made sure I had found the cheapest website. It even did delivery which was good because I went for a slate pool table.
I went for a Supreme 8ft Prince Slate Bed Pool Table. This company had been a major supplier for over 25 years so must be of a good quality. They manufacture them in Heywood in Lancashire so it was good solid British workmanship. They work hard on reliability of today’s tables which are so good they are used for major championships as they are considered to be the very best. It had a nice modern look which would fit in perfectly into the middle of our dining room.

This table was amazing, it came with only the best Italian slate and quality English cushion rubber which game the table a consistent response. It had adjustable feet to allow you to make the table 100% flat. Obviously that is very important. It also came like most pool tables with 2 cues, pool balls, chalk, triangle, and I purchased a rest and a set of snooker balls as well just in case we wanted a game of that. It had a lovely Mahogany finish too.

The table was covered In green felt and was 243cm long, 137cm wide, 84cm high. It had a playing area of 210.9cm’s by 105.4cm’s. This table is often used in pubs with a coin-operated section to it but this one had it removed as it was for home use.

We got the pool table in and made sure it was flat. Wow it was amazing and we spent most of our free time in there playing darts, watching football and playing pool. We had tournaments and even more mates round to play. It was so cool. After not having my own place for years to suddenly have one with friends I like and with such entertainment was amazing. I would recommend it to anyone.

ng spent 40 years working towards retirement the day finally came. Sadly after a few weeks I was completely at a loss what to do with my time. I had only ever been interested in watching Sport and you can only do so much of that over a period of one week so how could I spend the next 30 years or more doing it. I was bored!

To cut a long story short(er) I finished up working in a Supermarket on a full time basis. We have a rest room / canteen where we can relax during our breaks. Part of the fairly large room is given over to a Coin Operated Pool Table. I had never really paid much attention to these before but found it quite interesting to watch the younger lads playing. There are several Cues to choose from and the Balls are released when the 50p is inserted into the machine. Chalk is available.

Although I will never be any good or so I thought I did think long and hard about trying to purchase a Table for Home. When I got home that evening I searched on the Internet under ‘Pool Tables’ and found more ideas than I could ever imagine.

There were Tables, Cues, Balls, Scoreboards in fact everything you can imagine you would need and more. It is possible to buy tables at 5ft, 6ft or 7ft or even 8ft and made of Wood or Slate. Every table comes with the accessories of Cues, Balls, Chalk, Triangle and I noticed that delivery was included in the very acceptable price. I took a good amount of time to make the final decision and ordered the table. A few days later it arrived and was destined over the next few weeks to be used on a daily basis. My work at the supermarket seemed to get in the way of my Pool life! I bought a book on playing Pool/Snooker and with the help yet again of the Internet learned more about this amazing game.

After several months I was really in love with this game and to be honest was quite good even if I said so myself. On the advice of a family friend I plucked up the courage to join the local Pool Club who played in the local League. The Pool hall was unbelievable. Eight Pool Tables all made of slate with lights over top. Something we never thought of having at home. The Cues were top class although the majority of the players had their own. This was heaven and the good thing about it was there were a number of retired men there who played during the day so even on my day off I could get a game.

My new ‘career’ took off and even at my ripe old age I made it into the team playing in the local League.

I now have my very own Cue and Cue case and have installed lights over the Table at home. Anyone who fancies copying me please do not hesitate. Find a Search Engine, input Pool Tables and the world is you oyster. Good Luck.

I never forgot those days around the Tables on Holiday but it never crossed my mind that in a few years from then I would have my very own Table. But that’s how it turned out. We had moved to a fairly large house compared to a few years earlier and in the garden was a quite sizeable shed. The previous owner had obviously been a keen gardener quite the opposite to me I hasten to add. With the garage being used as a utility room for various large items that we seem to rely on today more and more I considered what could be done with the shed. The boys were now growing up fast but past the usual bikes and skateboard phases of their lives so what could we use the space for.
