The New Family Pool Table

Posted on Jun 23, 2008 under Pool Table Articles | Comments are off

Having just moved to a nice new house we wanted to set up a games room for the kids. We have three reception rooms so with one being used as a living room and one as a dining room it seemed obvious to turn the other into the games room.

I went onto the internet and typed in pool tables uk into a search engine and spent the next hour searching through a large selection of sites that sell them. The ones that particularly interested me were those with cheap delivery. I actually found something that matched what we needed perfectly. It was a table that could be used as a pool table but could also be changed so you can also play table tennis on it or use it as a desktop table. It was a BCE / Riley - Pool, Table Tennis and Desktop Table.

The multi play games table was in rosewood which game it a really classy finish and would look great in the games room. We had never though about getting something like a table tennis table but as the table could be easily converted it seemed the obvious choice. Each day once we had finished playing it could be covered up which both protected the table but also hid it away so no-one would ever know what it was.

It came with bolt on 3” hollow square legs, a set of pool balls, 2 cures, a brush to clean the table, chalk, a triangle, 2x bats for table tennis, the net for table tennis and a set of balls. The total weight was only 53kg’s and it had a dimension of 72” by 36” by 31″.

Once the decision was made we placed the order and within a few days the delivery was made and by that evening we had a multi purpose table at the centre of our games room. Who needs a pool hall when you can have a pool table at home? The kids loved it not to mention all of their friends. We regularly have a group of their friends round as they play tournaments with each other. We even play family tournaments at the weekends.

At only a couple of hundred pounds it must be said that this table is one of the best buys I’ve ever made. With a pool table that can convert into a table tennis table you get twice the fun and entertainment for the same price. Anything that keeps the kids quiet is fine by me. I would strongly recommend this table to anyone. All you have to do is go to a search engine and type in pool tables and look through the websites that sell them. You’d be surprised by what you can find. If you don’t have the room then you can always get a folding leg table that can even be placed on a dining room table. They all have adjusting legs so you can make sure they are flat. Or if you are rich and have plenty of room you can get a slate bed table like you would see in a pool hall or a pub. They are slightly more expensive but well worth it. Just see for yourself.

What A Wonderful New Pool Table

Posted on Jun 19, 2008 under Pool Table Articles | Comments are off

After buying my pub a couple of years ago I had to get rid of the pool table which was about 30 years old. Since then I have often wondered if putting a new one in would be worth the cost and effort. I went onto the internet and looked for pool table companies that could supply a brand new slate bed pool table. I put slate bed pool tables into a search engine and got up a load of companies that supply them. There were loads of them right from small ones for children and folding leg tables for families with limited room right through to slate pool tables which was exactly what I wanted. The price was quite good when you consider that it was a pound a game. I tried to work out how long it would take to get my money back and it was actually only a couple of months.

I decided to buy a Supreme 8ft Slate Bed Pool Table. These tables are considered to be among them highest quality you can get. Supreme tables are used in championship events and tournaments around the world and are endorsed by the world 8 ball federation and the I.P.A. This pool table was even built in Lancashire which was just down the road.

The pool table is very popular as it has a nice modern look which is just perfect for my pub and should encourage lots of people to use it. I only had to decide now what colours and accessories to have with it. I decided on a blue felt cover. I also got as part of the price 2 cues, balls, chalk, a rest and a triangle. I got a couple of extra cues just in case any got damaged. The table had adjustable feet to allow for a flat playing surface which was very handy as my pub is old and I’m not sure the floor is 100% flat. With a nice Oak finish it would look wonderful.

I put in the order and agreed on professional fitting along with a coin-operated system so people can pay for the use of the table. After just a week it arrived and was sited at the back of my pub. With a load of adverts in and around the pub it soon became a new hit with the locals and was raking me in a load of money. Looking back it was one of the best moves I have ever made and after just 3 months I have made my money back and have now got an increased monthly income. What a move.

Boys and Their Toys

Having been trying to buy a place for years my mates and I decided to buy a place together. Four of us in total purchased a wonderful four bedroom detached house taking on a share of the house each. With two reception we obviously set one up as the living room with a television and sofas etc. The other we decided to set up as a games room. We decided on another large screen television to show sport on of course. Plus a dart board table football and most importantly a slate pool table.

Each of us was put in charge of a different aspect. I was in charge of finding and buying the pool table. I went straight online and put pool tables into a search engine and came up with a lovely long list of websites. Not all of them sold them but a good few did and once I found a good one I looked at what tables were on offer. Then looking through some more I made sure I had found the cheapest website. It even did delivery which was good because I went for a slate pool table.
I went for a Supreme 8ft Prince Slate Bed Pool Table. This company had been a major supplier for over 25 years so must be of a good quality. They manufacture them in Heywood in Lancashire so it was good solid British workmanship. They work hard on reliability of today’s tables which are so good they are used for major championships as they are considered to be the very best. It had a nice modern look which would fit in perfectly into the middle of our dining room.

This table was amazing, it came with only the best Italian slate and quality English cushion rubber which game the table a consistent response. It had adjustable feet to allow you to make the table 100% flat. Obviously that is very important. It also came like most pool tables with 2 cues, pool balls, chalk, triangle, and I purchased a rest and a set of snooker balls as well just in case we wanted a game of that.  It had a lovely Mahogany finish too.

The table was covered In green felt and was 243cm long, 137cm wide, 84cm high. It had a playing area of 210.9cm’s by 105.4cm’s. This table is often used in pubs with a coin-operated section to it but this one had it removed as it was for home use.

We got the pool table in and made sure it was flat. Wow it was amazing and we spent most of our free time in there playing darts, watching football and playing pool. We had tournaments and even more mates round to play. It was so cool. After not having my own place for years to suddenly have one with friends I like and with such entertainment was amazing. I would recommend it to anyone.

My Pool Table Idea

Posted on Jun 16, 2008 under Pool Table Articles | No Comment

ng spent 40 years working towards retirement the day finally came. Sadly after a few weeks I was completely at a loss what to do with my time. I had only ever been interested in watching Sport and you can only do so much of that over a period of one week so how could I spend the next 30 years or more doing it. I was bored!

To cut a long story short(er) I finished up working in a Supermarket on a full time basis. We have a rest room / canteen where we can relax during our breaks. Part of the fairly large room is given over to a Coin Operated Pool Table. I had never really paid much attention to these before but found it quite interesting to watch the younger lads playing. There are several Cues to choose from and the Balls are released when the 50p is inserted into the machine. Chalk is available.

Although I will never be any good or so I thought I did think long and hard about trying to purchase a Table for Home. When I got home that evening I searched on the Internet under ‘Pool Tables’ and found more ideas than I could ever imagine.

There were Tables, Cues, Balls, Scoreboards in fact everything you can imagine you would need and more. It is possible to buy tables at 5ft, 6ft or 7ft or even 8ft and made of Wood or Slate. Every table comes with the accessories of Cues, Balls, Chalk, Triangle and I noticed that delivery was included in the very acceptable price. I took a good amount of time to make the final decision and ordered the table. A few days later it arrived and was destined over the next few weeks to be used on a daily basis. My work at the supermarket seemed to get in the way of my Pool life! I bought a book on playing Pool/Snooker and with the help yet again of the Internet learned more about this amazing game.

After several months I was really in love with this game and to be honest was quite good even if I said so myself. On the advice of a family friend I plucked up the courage to join the local Pool Club who played in the local League. The Pool hall was unbelievable. Eight Pool Tables all made of slate with lights over top. Something we never thought of having at home. The Cues were top class although the majority of the players had their own. This was heaven and the good thing about it was there were a number of retired men there who played during the day so even on my day off I could get a game.

My new ‘career’ took off and even at my ripe old age I made it into the team playing in the local League.

I now have my very own Cue and Cue case and have installed lights over the Table at home. Anyone who fancies copying me please do not hesitate. Find a Search Engine, input Pool Tables and the world is you oyster. Good Luck.

Pool Tables For Christmas

Posted on Jun 16, 2008 under Pool Table Articles | No Comment

he real highlight of my year as a fairly lonely only child was a visit to a certain family friend at Christmas. This was back in the 50’s / 60’s and the woman of the house was my Mothers best friend. There was no TV and indeed no need for one. The children had would you believe a Pool Table. Only a cheap one admittedly and it could only be used by placing it and somehow securing it onto the Dining Table. Obviously teatime always seemed to drag because all I could think of was helping the parents clear away and then out with the Pool Table. The two hours or more that followed was to all intents and purposes the happiest of my year.

We only had two Cues so playing doubles was slightly annoying having to continually hand the Cues over between us but this was just a minor irritation. As I remember the playing surface was wooden and quite honestly had warped a bit over the years but it never curbed my enthusiasm for the game of Pool. We used the chalk on a regular basis although I am convinced that at the time I never really understood what the Chalk was for!

The Balls had also seen better days but who cared. The triangle was also minus one of its sides but again we managed. Halcyon days indeed.

Anyway we all grew up and it was many years later before I eventually found myself with a Cue in my hand again and playing a game with one of my three Sons at a Holiday Camp using a Coin-Operated Pool Table. This was ideal especially if the weather turned inclement. Luckily there were a number of other Pool Tables available also Snooker Tables but these were full sized and a little outside of our expertise. I thought then what a money earner this was for the owners of the Arcade. The tables were of aluminium frame and had stainless steel included to provide a longer lasting piece of equipment especially compared with those wooden ones of my youth.

I never forgot those days around the Tables on Holiday but it never crossed my mind that in a few years from then I would have my very own Table. But that’s how it turned out. We had moved to a fairly large house compared to a few years earlier and in the garden was a quite sizeable shed. The previous owner had obviously been a keen gardener quite the opposite to me I hasten to add. With the garage being used as a utility room for various large items that we seem to rely on today more and more I considered what could be done with the shed. The boys were now growing up fast but past the usual bikes and skateboard phases of their lives so what could we use the space for.

The answer came one day when one of us for some reason was looking back at snaps of the boys growing up and mention was made of the Holiday Camp and the Pool Table.

That was it. We could have a Pool Table in the Garden Shed. I looked on the Internet with some help from the children of course and found a Search Engine in which I entered the words ‘Pool Tables’. Lo and behold within seconds I was staring at all sorts and descriptions of more Pool Tables than I ever imagined. They all seemed to have delivery included in the price and came with Cues, Balls, Triangle (three sides I presumed!) and Chalk which by now I had found out the need for. Amongst the many different items was an outside Pool Table. Okay it would be in the shed but the shed might get damp inside it so investment in an outdoor table seemed a good idea.

These tables are made for use in all types of weather so for inside a shed seemed a brilliant idea. I ordered and one was delivered within a very short time.

My only problem now is trying to persuade the boys and their mates to let me play.

Pool Tables When I Was Young

Pool Table Info

So you have wisely decided to buy a Pool Table and delivery has been made. That however is not the end of the story. It is essential to learn how to take care of your new purchase.

THE CLOTH:

Firstly the cloth will need ‘breaking in’. Until this has happened you will find that the roll of the ball may be affected. You should NOT be on the phone to the supplier. It is perfectly natural and perfection can be achieved at a quicker pace by brushing the cloth. This should be performed with a special Pool Table brush which if not provided with the accessories (Cue, Triangle, Balls and Chalk) that came with the table should now be purchased. The house brush from the kitchen will NOT suffice. Brushing should be performed in the same direction towards one of the ends of the Pool Table. Under no circumstances must you brush in circular motions or towards one of the sides of the table. Continue this for approximately 10 to 12 weeks and you should reap the benefit.

Secondly don’t forget that as well as brushing it the cloth of the Pool Table must be protected against the problems of dust and light especially if it is in a Conservatory or even outdoors (you can buy Pool Tables specially made for outdoor use). Always cover the Table when play finishes.

At all times keep an eye on the cloth and ensure its condition remains top class.

POOL CUES :
One could write a whole chapter and verse on looking after your Cue but essentially they should be kept upright preferably in a special rack designed to hold them correctly. Cues can warp and should NEVER be leant against walls for example for any length of time.
Pool Cue cleaners can be purchased from Pool specialty shops online.

POOL TABLE POCKETS :
Because of space it might not be too easy but if possible your Pool Table should be positioned away from direct light and/or heat. This should eliminate any damage to the pockets. The pockets must be kept clean and dusted on a regular basis. Do not store the balls in the pockets but in the box provided as part of the accessories.

ADDITIONAL CARE POINTERS :
All Pool Table hardware should be cleaned on a regular basis with a damp cloth. The Pool Balls can be cleaned when required. Use a standard household detergent Polish with a soft clean cloth.
Do not chalk your Cue over the table. Chalk has an abrasive quality about it.

If your Pool Table is wooden in whole or in part it should be dusted on a regular basis.

NEVER sit or stand on your Pool Table. Any breaking of the seal between the cushion and the rail will result in the lack of response when the ball hits the cushion.

NEVER place food or drink on any part of the table.

Try not to have the table in the direct sunlight if at all possible.

.
DO take care of everything and enjoy your game.

We Saved A Fortune With Our Pool Table

Getting home from the pub one night I emptied my change out of my pockets and suddenly realised just how much money I had got through that evening. Looking back I began to think about how I had spent the money that evening. I hadn’t had that many drinks yet I got through a small fortune. I realised that this wasn’t the first time that I had got through a good few pounds up the pub. The following week I was up there having just got my drink from the bar I went to put a pound into the pool table when it suddenly hit me. We play pool up the pub and are constantly putting in pound coins all evening.

Walking back from the pub I gave the whole pool table thing some deep thought. I wondered if there was a way of making it a little more affordable. Opening the front door I put away my coat and walked into the kitchen, straight past the dining room. Walking back and into the dining room it suddenly hit me. We could get our own pool table and play in there. If we all put some money in it wouldn’t be to expensive and from that point on it would be free. Just need to get some drinks from the off license which is cheaper than the pub anyway.

I logged on and did a search for pool tables and found a long list of companies that supply pool tables. I couldn’t fit a huge slate one in but I found a few that had folding legs, they would be perfect. These companies also supplied cues, rests, chalk, and the pack of balls. Snooker and pool which could add some variety. Emailing all my mates I came up with an overall price and asked them if they fancied splitting the costs. Within a couple of days they had all said yes. A couple of them went out and purchased their own cues.

I ordered the pool table. One with folding legs which came with free delivery, a pack of pool balls, 2 cues, a triangle, a rest and a piece of chalk. I then got a pack of snooker balls to go with it. And finally I got my very own cue. Slightly better than the cues that come with the table. I was going to rule the table.

Within a week the table was set up in my dining room and the very next week my mates were coming round to play our very own competition. Within a few months we had saved enough money to cover the cost of this pool table and that’s not including the money we were saving on the booze. What a great move.

My New Pool Hall

Posted on Jun 13, 2008 under Pool Table Articles | No Comment

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to run my own business but have never really known what it is I wanted to do. I needed something that I could truly enjoy and something that will obviously be successful. These days businesses come and go daily as endless people try to have a go at being their own boss. I didn’t want this to be a short term failure so I had to make sure I could come up with something great. Something that would earn me money, and I could enjoy at the same time.

Lying in bed one night I was staring across the room when I suddenly realised I was looking at my snooker cue. It then came to me. There is no snooker or pool hall in my town which for a town with several thousand people is quite surprising. Getting very excited I started to think where I could start one and a few ideas came to mind. I couldn’t sleep that night I was so excited about the possibility that I had finally come up with something to do as a business. Obviously I would need a site for the pool hall but I’d also need to buy some pool tables and maybe even a couple of snooker tables along with a number of cues, chalks, triangles and rests. Oh and snooker and pool balls would help too.

That day I went to an estate agent who showed me that very morning several places to set up my pool hall. I then booked an appointment with the bank manager about getting a business loan. My dream was getting ever closer.

Once the business loan was completed I sorted the lease on a property in town and began to renovate it to be a pool hall with a bar on the side. Early the next morning I got up and logged onto my computer, going straight to the search engine. Putting in pool tables I found a site that I could buy pool tables through and get them delivered direct. As it was online I got a discount and an even bigger discount as I purchased 10 pool tables and 2 snooker tables plus all the accessories.

Just 2 months after I thought of the idea the pool tables arrived and I began to take bookings to join the pool hall. With brand new slate pool tables, cues, triangles and a nice bar to drink at it all began to take off and has now become a thriving social club with a pool and snooker league running. I finally have my dream business and I love it.

Profits Up Thanks To My New Pool Table

Having owned a pub for a number of years I am always looking for new ways to increase revenue and with the smoking ban almost a year old now more than ever I need to find ways to get people to come into pubs and to enjoy the kind of fun that pubs have provided for decades.

With a variety of different theme nights like the weekly quiz night I still felt I needed something that would be there the whole time with very little effort. A quiz night takes time to prepare. One night I was sitting down and I turned the television on to find a game of snooker being shown. Suddenly it came to me. I would put a pool table in the back area. Its got plenty of room and could be the entertainment that could be there the whole time with no effort on our part.

I did a little research which started with a search on the internet. I went onto a couple of search engines and typed in the words pool tables. What I found was a large selection of companies that sold pool tables and accessories direct. That is lucky because the table I was interested in was a slate table with a coin mechanism. These are amazingly heavy so the fact they would be delivered was important.

There was a wide selection of table’s right through from ones you can have at home with folding legs right up to the slate ones and even full size snooker tables. They also had a whole range of different cues, chalks, triangles and rests. You could even buy them separately so you could have a spare set. That’s useful in case a cue got damaged. Or someone decided to nick it.

I ordered a table with a slate table and all the accessories along with a set of chalks, and a couple of spare cues. I ordered from one of the companies that were selling online and because they sold online only there costs were a lot lower. As a result the pool table was actually a lot cheaper than I thought which was great.

I now have it located in the back of my pub with a few tables and chairs around the outside of the room and the pool table in the middle. There is plenty of room for people bending over the table with a long cue. We keep the cues, chalks, triangles etc behind the bar for safety but have found that the table takes several hundred pounds a week with the most being taken on a Friday and Saturday night. Saturday afternoons are always busy especially during the summer when there is no football.

Overall it’s been one of the best things I’ve done. I got exactly what I always wanted. An attraction that is there every minute that the pub is open that can earn extra money with the minimum of effort. Its just fantastic
